DOING GOOD

We Care About Our Planet

OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL

Our business evolved out of our passion for the outdoors and travel, and it’s important to us that we consider the impact we have and make a positive difference to the places we visit.

Most experts agree that sustainable travel includes:  environmental practices, safeguarding natural and cultural heritage, and supporting local communities.

Through our commitment to sustainable travel, we strive to minimize the adverse impacts of our travel and to have a positive impact on the environment and the places we visit through the following business practices:

Responsible Environmental Practices

  • We practice and teach the Leave No Trace principles.

  • We pick up after ourselves and strive to leave the places we hike and camp as good as or better than we found them.

  • We encourage our guests to use reusable water bottles and try to avoid single-use plastic where possible.

  • We recycle where possible in the areas we visit.

  • When using lodging, we encourage our guests to minimize water use and to not have towels and linens changed daily.

  • We host periodic events that have a positive impact on the environment such as a beach or community clean-up.

Safeguarding natural and cultural heritage

  • We treat our employees, participants, and the communities we visit with respect.

  • We respect local cultures, traditions, religions, and built heritage.

  • We limit our group size to lower our impact.

  • We look for opportunities to immerse our participants in local culture.

Supporting Local Communities

  • When using operators, we work with local operators where feasible to keep the profits in the communities we visit.

  • We work with operators and guides who are committed to safeguarding the natural environment and cultural heritage.

  • When staying in lodging, we choose locally-owned lodging where possible.

  • We eat at locally-owned restaurants and encourage our participants to do the same.

  • We encourage our participants to shop locally so the money stays in the community.

While at Home

  • We reduce our carbon footprint by having all members of the Terravana Adventures team work remotely.

  • We strive to reduce paper use and waste by communicating electronically as much as possible..

  • When using paper, we use recycled paper and products where feasible.

  • We know eliminating single-use plastic is difficult and are working to improve in this area of our everyday lives.
